New Haven, Conn. – Marc Powers, Daniel Hoffman and John Huang all won their fourth-round matches Sunday at the 2010 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale, thus advancing to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Sophomore Powers defeated Boston College's Alex Skinner 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday and will face Penn's Phil Law in the quarters Monday morning.
Fellow sophomore Hoffman beat Harvard's Casey MacMaster in the fourth round 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, setting up a quarter-final matchup against Sam Fife of Brown.
Huang, also a sophomore, defeated Christo Shultz of Harvard 6-4, 6-2 in his Sunday match and will now square off against Binghamton's Sven Vloedgraven.
The Bulldogs lone remaining doubles team, featuring Powers and Hoffman, lost 9-8 in the third round Sunday to Buffalo's Marcelo Mazzetto and Mitch Zenaty.
Doubles play is set to begin at 9 a.m. Monday, with singles quarter-final and semi-final matches scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively.
