Yale Falls to No. 59 Binghamton

Cambridge, Mass. – The Yale Bulldogs fell to No. 59 Binghamton in the first round of the ECAC Men's Indoor Tennis Championships on Saturday morning by a 4-3 score. The Bulldogs were seeded No. 6 in the tournament, while Binghamton ranked third.  

Yale excelled in the doubles matches, sweeping all three spots. At No. 1, sophomore Marc Powers and junior Joel Samaha defeated Binghamton's team of Sven Vloedgraven and Gilbert Wong (8-5). Sophomore Daniel Hoffman and junior Erik Blumenkranz faced a close match-up at No. 2, but ultimately won the match 9-8. Finally, senior captain Calvin Bennett and sophomore John Huang captured the win at No. 3 in a quick 8-3 match.

Yale won two singles matches as well. Hoffman won a two set match at No. 3 singles (6-4,6-0), while Samaha likewise defeated Binghamton's Gilbert Wong in two at No. 4 (6-3,6-3).

The Bulldogs will play at 8 a.m. on Sunday against the loser of Princeton (No. 2 seed) vs. St. John's.
