Abergel, Berman, Blumenkranz, Chase, Dean, Hoffman and Samaha Honored
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's tennis team earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition and had seven individuals named ITA Scholar-Athletes for 2010-11: Jordan Abergel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), Ryan Berman (Armonk, N.Y.), Erik Blumenkranz (Portola Valley, Calif.), Patrick Chase (Portola Valley, Calif.), Zachary Dean (Commack, N.Y.), Daniel Hoffman (Atherton, Calif.) and Joel Samaha (Tampa, Fla.). The seven honorees tie Yale for second among Ivy League teams.
Abergel and Berman finished with four ITA Scholar-Athlete selections, and the Bulldogs were an All-Academic Team selection for all four years they were at Yale. Abergel was also an Academic All-Ivy League selection earlier this year. Blumenkranz, Yale's 2011-12 captain, has now earned three ITA Scholar-Athlete selections. Hoffman and Samaha are two-time honorees.
The Bulldogs finished the season ranked No. 9 in the region. They had three singles players, including Hoffman, ranked in the regional top 20. Hoffman was also a part of the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the region.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
