Powers and Huang Advance to the Second Round of All-American Qualifier
TULSA, Okla. – Three members of the Yale men's tennis team competed in the ITA All-American Qualifying Draw on Monday. Juniors John Huang and Marc Powers advanced to the second round. These victories already put the Bulldogs in better position than in last year's tournament in which no member made it past the first round.
Huang, who advanced to the qualifying draw after winning four consecutive matches in the pre-qualifying draw this past weekend, won a three-set match over Maryland's John Collins (2-6, 6-3, 6-1). Huang will face stiff competition tomorrow as he takes on the No. 1 seed, Idan Mark from Tulane. Powers also won his first round match against TCU's Orlando Superlano in straight sets (6-2, 7-5). Powers will play Georgy Batrakov from BYU on Wednesday.
Classmate Daniel Hoffman fell to BYU's Spencer Smith in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). He will play in the consolation draw on Tuesday against Tulsa's Grant Ive.
