ITHACA, N.Y. - No. 6 seeded junior Marc Powers advances to the quarterfinals of the USTA Regionals Singles Draw. Powers and doubles partner junior Daniel Hoffman reach the quarterfinals in doubles after winning two matches on Sunday.
Powers won both matches on Sunday, defeating Princeton's Matt Siow and Brown's No. 17 seed Brandon Burke. He will play Cornell's Quoc-Daniel Nguyen on Monday, who has already knocked out two seeds: No. 9 Alex Steinroeder from Harvard and No. 17 Stefan Bojik from St. John's. Powers defeated Siow in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) on Sunday morning. In the afternoon, he won a three-set match after dropping the first set (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).
After advancing with a bye in the first round, No. 2 seeded Powers and Hoffman defeated Princeton's Augie Bloom and Dan Davies.
On Monday, they will take on Columbia's No. 9 seede duo of Tizian Bucher and Nate Gery.
