Brown and Hagermoser Also Take Part in Consolation Bracket

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Though all members of the Yale men's tennis team have been eliminated from the singles and doubles main draws at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships, a few Elis turned to the consolation draw as a way of gaining match experience and confidence.  Sunday's consolation play on Yale's outdoor courts saw three Bulldogs in action, with one pulling out a three-set triumph.

Sophomore Martin Svenning had recorded a comprehensive victory on Saturday over Quinnipiac's Patrick Sell, and he maintained his good form on Sunday, completing a resounding comeback against Elliot Hureau of Binghamton.  Hureau started strongly and took the first set before Svenning could find his best tennis.  The 2013 Ivy League Rookie of the Year nominee was not to be outclassed, however, as he regrouped to win the second set for the loss of only two games.  Svenning never looked back, claiming the decisive tiebreaker to seal Yale's sole victory on the day.

Freshman Alex Hagermoser also opted to play a consolation match Sunday, and in doing so found himself engaged in a scintillating three-set tussle against Robin Lesage, also of Binghamton.  Though the resilient Hagermoser was able to steal the second set, Lesage ultimately notched the win in a third-set tiebreaker.  Rounding out Yale's participants Sunday was sophomore Jason Brown, who was defeated by Alex Maison of Binghamton.

Though the Bulldogs have hit their last ball at the Northeast Regional tournament, the event is entering its latter stages, with the doubles semifinal round to commence at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Cullman-Heyman.  The singles quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled to take place later in the day.
