Krumholz and Svenning Record Wins Against Host Squad

PHILADELPHIA – The second day of the Penn Classic saw members of the Yale men's tennis team take on members of the Penn tennis squad.  Playing at their opponents' home courts at the Hamlin Tennis Center and Levy Pavilion on Saturday, the Bulldogs managed to post victories in both singles and doubles against their Ivy League rivals.

Saturday's contests were notable for featuring several superb Bulldog upperclassmen performances.  In singles play, junior Martin Svenning got the better of his opponent, Matt Nardella, in two tight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5).  Senior captain Zachary Krumholz, meanwhile, withstood a stern comeback bid from Blaine Willenborg to capture a 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3 victory.

In doubles competition, the all-sophomore duo of Alex Hagermoser and Photos Photiades upended Nardella and Marshall Sharp in a hard-fought tiebreaker, 7-6(7).  Krumholz and junior Jason Brown also scored a win, defeating the Penn tandem of Willenborg and Vim De Alwis 6-4.

Full results from Saturday's play can be found below.

The Penn Classic wraps up on Sunday, with Yale's players scheduled to play against members of the Princeton squad starting at 11:30 a.m.
