No. 84 Lu to Fight for Chance to Play in Main Draw

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Tyler Lu, ranked No. 84 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), will join the best players in collegiate tennis this coming Monday for the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships.  This prestigious event, which features a pre-qualifying and qualifying draw in addition to a main draw, will take place at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Lu earned his spot in the qualifying draw of this year's All-American Championships before the season even began, by virtue of his preseason ranking and his sterling performance last season.  He started the 2014-15 season with his teammates at the Ivy Plus Invitational, and gained wins in both singles and doubles over the course of the weekend.  Lu reached the quarterfinals of both main draws in which he competed, and also notched an extra win in non-bracketed singles play.  This latter victory came against Sam Fleck of Cornell, who is also ranked in the top 100 in the nation, at No. 96.

While pre-qualifying action begins on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, Lu will not take to the court until Monday, when matches in the qualifying draw begin.  Lu will be competing to claim a spot in the main draw.  Matches in the main draw begin on Thursday, Oct. 2.
