Doehler and Photiades in Action on Day One

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Qualifying matches at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships got underway on Thursday.  Two members of the Yale men's tennis team were in action, but both were eliminated by the close of play.

Freshman Stefan Doehler and sophomore Photos Photiades represented the Yale squad in singles qualifying.  Doehler had a successful start to his maiden Northeast Regionals campaign, as he defeated Jacob Daugherty in a high-quality encounter, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.  He then took on Cornell's Dylan Brown in the second round of qualifying, but lost by a score of 7-5, 6-4.  Meanwhile, Photiades fell in his first round encounter against UConn's Christopher Toner, 7-5, 6-2.

Friday's action will see the commencement of main draw play in singles and doubles, and several Bulldogs will take to the court.  Yale three doubles teams of senior Daniel Faierman and sophomore Tyler Lu, sophomores Photiades and Alex Hagermoser and junior Martin Svenning and freshman Ziqi Wang will all look to make progress in the draw.  Hagermoser and Svenning will also be playing their opening round matches.  First ball is at 7:45 a.m. at the National Tennis Center.
