King to Play in Prequalifying Draw on Oct. 1; Lu to Play in Qualifying Draw on Oct. 3
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its selections earlier this month for the 2016 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, and two Bulldogs – freshman Dylan King and senior Tyler Lu – managed to qualify for the highly selective competition. King will play in prequalifying singles competition this Saturday, while Lu will compete in the qualifying singles draw on Oct. 3; in the case that one or both players manage to advance without a loss, main draw competition will begin on Oct. 6. For the 12th consecutive year, the ITA All-American Championships will be held at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Lu, who secured an ITA national singles ranking of No. 94 earlier this month, will look to build on the success he found in this event last year, in which he posted a victory over one of the top players in the nation. King, on the other hand, will be attending the event for the first time. Still, the freshman will undoubtedly set high expectations for himself after making an impressive 9-2 start to his collegiate career. This year's freshman class of Ryan Cheng, Andrew Heller and King has submitted a strong start to the season; King's qualification for this weekend's highly selective tournament continues to speak volumes about the quality of the team's newest players.
The prequalifying and qualifying draws for the All-American Championships have not yet been made available. When official start times and matches are made public, the relevant links will be posted below.
