Yale Freshman Upsets No. 17 Seed, Advances to Prequalifying Round of 64
TULSA, OK – Yale freshman Dylan King enjoyed an impressive start to the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday, winning two prequalifying matches to advance to the competition's second day. The first of these victories came against North Carolina's Anu Kodali, who was seeded No. 17 in the prequalifying draw. After dropping the first set 6-2, the Bulldog showed grit to bounce back and win the next two sets 6-1, 6-4, and take the match. Considering Kodali recently graduated from high school as a blue-chip recruit (top 25 in the nation) on tennisrecruiting.net, this result speaks volumes about King's high level of play. King followed up his first round win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tulsa's Okkie Kellerman.
After a strong first day of prequalifying, King is now two victories away from qualifying for the tournament's qualifying draw, where Yale senior Tyler Lu will also be competing. His first opponent on Sunday will be Wichita State's Vitor Mendes.
