After knee surgery last summer Johnny rebounded to start in the singles line-up for ½ of Yale's spring dual matches. Johnny had a 5-6 spring dual match singles record his sophomore year, primarily at #4 singles, before spraining his wrist at the start of the Ivy season. That season, in limited doubles action, Lu won 2 out of 3 dual matches. Lu had an impressive 15-8 dual match record and a 21-12 overall singles record playing mostly #4 through #6 singles his freshman year, and was 4-1 in dual match doubles action. Lu is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and was the recipient of the prestigious Bill Talbert National Sportsmanship Award in 2001. In the 18 & Unders Lu was ranked #70 nationally. Johnny is a graduate of Kentucky Country Day School.
