Ryan is returning as Yale's top player for the past three years. He finished last season ranked #16 in the Northeast Region, earning First-Team All-Ivy Singles honors. His freshman year Murphy moved into the #1 position and earned First Team All-Ivy Singles honors with a record of 24-10 overall and 16-9 in dual matches. He also earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in doubles that year. During his sophomore year Murphy got off to a strong start, but his momentum was disrupted during the dual match season by a back strain. He still managed a dual match record of 8-8 at #1 singles and an overall record of 15-11. Murphy finished that year with a Northeast Regional ranking of #18 in singles and #7 in doubles with David Goldman, and was selected Second Team All-Ivy in singles. Murphy was the recipient of the team's Stuart D. Ludlum, Jr. '62 Award for team spirit. A two-time High School All-American, Murphy was the top ranked junior from Texas and was the #56th ranked player in the nation. Ryan is a graduate of the Kinkaid School.
