William's playing time through his first three seasons has been limited to fall tournament action. He has represented Yale in the Cornell, Princeton/Farnsworth, and Yale Fall Invitationals. As a sophomore he won the Stuart D. Ludlum, Jr. '62 Memorial Award for team spirit. He is also a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete Award winner. In the juniors William was ranked #2 in the USTA Caribbean Section. He won the sportsmanship award in the National Hardcourt Championships in San Antonio, as well as in the Puerto Rico Davis Cup Challenge 2002 (where he reached the quarterfinals in singles and semifinals in doubles). He was captain of his high school team (Perpetuo Socorro) and was his team's MVP.
