New York, NY - The Yale men's tennis team began play in the Columbia Invitational yesterday. Sophomore Jeff Dawson and junior Rory Green won their first round singles matches. The doubles teams of Green and freshman Matt Schimmel and Dawson and sophomore Josh Lederman also earned victories in their respective matches.
Green and Schimmel defeated Farleigh Dickinson's Phillip Stephens and Pruitt Gross in the first round of doubles 8-2. Dawson and Lederman defeated Ilia Shatashvili and Magdy El-Mihdawi of Columbia 8-5.
Dawson defeated Bogdan Borta of Manhattan 6-1, 6-2 in his opening match of the Flight "A" Singles bracket. Green defeated Mihai Nichifor of Manhattan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The tournament resumes this morning at 9 a.m.
