Minneapolis, Minnesota - Yale dropped to 0-2 to start the season after losing to No. 32 ranked Minnesota (4-1) 4-3 yesterday in Minneapolis. Brandon Wai, Connor Dawson and Rory Green picked up victories at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles, but the Gophers edged the Bulldogs for the victory.
At No. 2 singles, sophomore Michael Caldwell dropped the first set 6-4 before taking the second set 6-3. However, Minnesota's Raoul Schwark, nationally ranked No. 58, was too much for Caldwell and took the third and final set 7-5.
Brandon Wai, nationally ranked No. 81, pulled off a big victory for Yale at No. 1 singles defeating Andrews Osorio, who holds a national ranking of 77. Wai teamed up with Green also took the top doubles slot with an 8-6 victory, but the Gophers took the other two doubles matches to get the doubles point and the victory.
