The Bulldogs spoiled Elon's season opener Saturday, defeating the Phoenix 6-1 in North Carolina. Brandon Wai and Milosz Gudowski both earned straight-set victories, and five of six singles matches resulted in wins for the Bulldogs.
In the No. 1 match, Ryan Murphy defeated Pramote Malasitt, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, and Wai dispatched Eric Haase 6-3, 7-5 at the 2 slot. Rowan Reynolds came back from a first set loss to beat Thomas Rohof 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Gudzowski was an easy 6-0, 6-1 victor against Justin Roberson. Neil Tolaney also rebounded from a first set deficit, defeating Mike Prelec 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 to give Yale their fifth victory in singles.
Yale's Johnny Lu was defeated in a hard-fought contest in the No. 5 position by Sebastian Bredberg and fell 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.
In doubles action, two out of three matches were won by the Bulldogs. Reynolds and Andrew Rosenfeld were 9-7 winners over Rohof and Roberson, while Tolaney and Chris Lawler won 8-2 against Bredberg and Prelec. Murphy and Wai fell to Malasitt and Haase in the No. 1 doubles position.
The 1-1 Elis will be idle until Feb. 20th, when they host Army at 2:30 p.m.
