Yale Trounces Rutgers, 7-0

Yale did not drop a match in singles or doubles as the Bulldogs cruised by Rutgers 7-0 today. Yale's top two players, Brandon Wai and Ryan Murphy, both easily won their matches in straight sets.

Wai won his match at No. 1 6-1, 6-2 over Rutgers' Tyler Deming, while Murphy was a 6-3, 6-1 favorite over Gordie Milchusky. At No. 3, Milosz Gudzowski led Matt Fawcett 6-1, 4-1 before Fawcett retired, and Rowan Reynolds survived a 7-5 second set to sweet Arjun Vaida 6-4, 7-5.

Yale's Rory Green fell 4-6 in the first set but battled back to win the second 6-0 before winning 1-0 (11-9) in the decisive third, while Johnny Lu bested Gabe Adams 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.

In doubles, Yale's three teams -- Murphy/Wai, Reynolds/Chris Lawler, and Lu/Gudzowski -- all won their doubles matches 8-3 to earn the doubles point.

The Elis take on the US Military Academy tomorrow.
