Bulldogs Defeat No. 58 New Mexico 5-2

The Elis came out victorious in their match against No. 58 New Mexico, the alma mater of Head Coach Alex Dorato. Yale was swept in doubles by the Lobos, but managed to win every singles match except the No. 1 contest to pick up the strong 5-2 victory.

At the No. 2 position, Andrew Rosenfeld defeated No. 46 David Kowalski 6-1, 6-3, while Brandon Wai dispatched opponent Hiroud Akhavan 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 slot.

Rowan Reynolds won by the same 6-4, 6-4 margin over Ryan Shotland, and Milosz Gudzowski dropped a set to Jasmin Hodzic but ended up victorious in three sets with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 victory.

Johnny Lu took a hard-fought first set 7-5 against Henry Gers before coming out to throttle Gers 6-0 to win the match.

At No. 1, Ryan Murphy fell to No. 29 Divan Coetzee by a 6-2, 6-3 score. In addition, the Lobos were superious to Yale in doubles, sweeping the three matches. Kowalski and Stotland defeated Rosenfeld and Reynolds 9-2, and Gers and Hodzic were 8-3 winners over Chris Lawler and Neal Tolaney.

The No. 2 doubles match was the hardest battle, with Murphy and Wai ultimately falling 9-8 to Coetzee and Akhaven.

The Elis will embark on a California Spring Break swing, battling teams such as Loyola Marymount, UCSB, Portland, and UC Irvine over the coming weeks. They kick off with Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
