SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Yale dropped to 9-5 on the season after losing to No. 60 Utah 5-2 Thursday in San Diego, Calif. The Bulldogs finished their California road trip with a 4-2 record.
Playing its third straight match without No. 1 singles player senior Jeff Dawson, Yale was forced to move every singles player up one spot. At the No. 3 singles spot, sophomore Calvin Bennett defeated Benito Suriano 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Joel Samaha rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win over John Taylor at No. 4 singles.
The Bulldogs also won a doubles match at No. 3 doubles. Samaha and senior Josh Lederman won 8-4 over Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano.
