Princeton, NJ - No. 5 seed junior Michael Caldwell advanced to the quarterfinals of the "A" Flight Singles draw after grinding out a 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 victory over Princeton's Alex Krueger-Wyman Friday at the Princeton-Farnsworth Invitational. Caldwell will face off against Justin Fox of Penn in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Bennett, seeded No. 3, defeated Nick Tuxen of St. Josephs in the first round 6-2, 6-3. Bennett then advanced to the quarterfinals after getting past Ilya Trubov of Princeton. Bennett will face Columbia's Ilia Shatashvili of Columbia Saturday.
After defeating Andy Gauthier of Cornell 7-6, 6-2 in the first round, Berman defeated Parker Preyer of Princeton 6-1, 6-3 in the second round to advance to the quarters. He will face Dan Urban of Columbia Saturday.
In other singles action in the "A" Flight draw, sophomore Connor Dawson will face off against Cornell's Jonathan Fife Saturday in the consolation draw after losing to Columbia's Jonathan Wong 6-1, 7-5 in the first round. Junior Jeff Dawson lost to No. 4 seed Tobias Wernet of Minnesota 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. In his first consolation match, he defeated Rory Heggie of Cornell 6-3, 6-2. Jeff Dawson will face off against Sebastien Dietz Saturday. Senior captain Rory Green of Yale fell to Justin Chow of Columbia 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
In the "A" Flight Doubles draw, Caldwell and Connor Dawson lost first round to a Columbia team 8-5. Bennett and Green came up short in their match as well falling to Binghamton's Dietz and Mohammed 8-2. Likewise, Jeff Dawson and junior Josh Lederman lost first round to Penn's Fox and O'Gara.
In other "B" Flight Singles draw play, junior Tom Santoro of Yale won his first round match over Weston Nichols of Cornell. Santoro then fell to Jeff Luse of Princeton 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. Sophomore Matt Schimmel lost to Jeremy Feldman of Cornell 6-1, 7-6. Schimmel then went on to win first consolation match over Andrew Husby of Princeton 6-3, 6-2.
In "B" Flight Doubles action, Berman and Santoro defeated Princeton's Faust and Preyer 8-6 to advance to the second round.
