PRINCETON, N.J. - After an up-and-down opening two days at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational, the Bulldogs finished the tournament strong on Sunday by winning four matches. Michael Caldwell won the consolation final in the A singles draw and Connor Dawson, teaming with Virginia's Leif Sutherland, took the B Doubles final.
Josh Lederman and Jeff Dawson opened up today strong, defeating Jared Drucker and Jonathan Wong of Columbia in the semifinals of the A doubles draw 8-5. The Bulldogs, however, fell in the finals to the No. 1-ranked Cornell team of Dan Brous and Josh Raff by the same 8-5 score.
Jeff's brother Connor had a very successful day, as he and Sutherland, the No. 1 seeded team in the B doubles draw, were able to win their two matches to take the whole thing. Connor Dawson actually defeated Sutherland in his other match of the day, to take third place in the B singles draw.
Michael Caldwell defeated Adam Schwartz of UPenn in the A flight singles draw consolation finals to round out the Bulldog victories.
"We really got better as the weekend went on, so I felt good about that," said Cary Leeds Head Coach Alex Dorato.
Missing from the Bulldog lineup this weekend were captain Brandon Wai and Rory Green, both recovering from illnesses. Dorato, however, was hopeful that the two would be back in action for this weekend's ECAC Championships in New York.
"Hopefully we'll be at full strength for this weekend," he said.
