Bulldogs Shine at Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational

Princeton, NJ - The Bulldogs continued play today at the Farnsworth Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Joe Vellanikaran '08 advanced to the finals in the B flight consolation draw and teammate Milosz Gudzowski '06 had an outstanding day in the open flight consolation draw. Gudzowski beat Bulldog freshman Michael Green '09 to advance to the finals, to be held on Sunday.

In the B flight, number one seeded Rory Green `08 played Jeff Luse of PRI, easily defeating Luce 6-1, 6-4. Green next faced off against Andrew Husby of PRI to advance to the semifinals. Husby beat Green 6-2, 6-3. In the B flight consolation draw, Vellanikaran easily beat Brian Costello 6-4, 6-0. Vellanikaran then played Antonio Aniello, whom he also swept 6-1, 6-1. Vellanikaran subsequently advanced to the semifinals where he was challenged by Phil Bayliss. Bayliss won the first set , but in the end Vellanikaran triumphed 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Vellanikaran will compete against Jake Feldman of Columbia today in the consolation finals.

In the consolation draw of the open flight, Rowan Reynolds `06 was beaten by Darius Craton 6-0, ,6-4. Caldwell beat number four seeded Jimmy Moore, going 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to win in the last two sets. Caldwell then advanced to beat Josh Raff (score unavailable) and then played teammate Gudowski for a chance to advance to the final. Gudzowski had just come off of beating Jared Drucker in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, then beat Tyler Deming for the chance to face off against Caldwell. In the end, Gudzowski triumphed over Caldwell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, securing his place in the consolation finals on Sunday.

The Elis complete their final day of play on Sunday, September 25, in Princeton.
