Yale Finishes Strong At Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bulldogs picked up where they left off at the Army Invitational today, sweeping all six singles matches for the second day in a row. The Elis also dominated in doubles, winning all three of their Sunday matches.

All six Yale players won their singles matches in straight sets against Cornell. No. 1 Michael Caldwell beat John Fife, 6-2, 6-4, and No. 2 Jeff Dawson thrashed Mark Asch, 6-2, 6-1. No. 3 Matt Schimmel downed Wes Nichols, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 4 Connor Dawson fought through a tough first set to beat Kevin Jay, 7-6, 6-4. No. 5 Josh Lederman narrowly beat Tongle Yu, 7-5, 7-6, and No. 6 Tom Santoro rounded out the Eli singles wins with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Bryant Young.

Yale was no less dominant in doubles against Army. The No. 1 team of Jeff Dawson and Lederman beat Kevin Harris and Sean Harris, 8-4, No. 2 Caldwell and Santoro downed Chris Albornoz and Charles Mullenger by the same 8-4 score, and No. 3 Connor Dawson and Schimmel routed Johnny Lucero and Bruno Lucivero, 8-2.

"Because we won as big as we did, it gave everyone a lot of confidence heading into next weekend," Cary Leeds Head Coach Alex Dorato said.

The Bulldogs will be playing at the ITA Regional Championships next weekend in Philadelphia. The Championships run from Thurs., Oct. 19 through Tues., Oct. 24.
