Yale Posts Best GPA in Nation, Earns All-Academic Team Honor from USTFCCCA
With the best team grade-point average in the country, Yale was honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday as an All-Academic Track & Field Team. The Bulldogs GPA of 3.42 placed them well above the cut-off point of 3.0 for All-Academic team recognition. Right behind the Bulldogs were Lipscomb (3.39) and the University of San Francisco. The next two best Ivy League schools were Dartmouth (3.32) and Harvard (3.27).

Five Yale student-athletes were named to the 2010 Division I All‐Academic Track & Field team, announced by the USTFCCCA Thursday. Yales honorees were rising senior Matthew Bogdan (Latham, N.Y.), Eric DePalo 10 (Westborough, Mass.), Alex Harris 10 (Brentwood, Tenn.), Chris Labosky 10 (Tallmadge, Ohio) and rising sophomore Mike Levine (Commack, N.Y.).

Chris Labosky Named First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America by CoSIDA
Chris Labosky 10 has been selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which was announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the second straight year earning the honor for Labosky, who was a third-team selection in 2009 and a first-team selection this year. He was the lone honoree from the Ivy League and is the first Bulldog to earn first-team honors since Thomas Hocker 02 in 2002.

This is the third time Labosky has earned this award, and he now advances to the ballot for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors.

Labosky Qualifies for Nationals
Senior Chris Labosky's phenomenal season continued as he qualified for the NCAA National Championships in the 800-meter run at the NCAA East Regional on Friday night. The Bulldogs also finished their second day of competition with a regional debut from junior Marty Evans in the 200-meter dash. Senior Alex Harris and junior Matt Bogdan were also scheduled to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but inclement weather postponed the race to Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The Bulldogs concentrated on making it past the preliminary rounds on the first day of NCAA East Regional Championships, with senior Chris Labosky advancing to the finals of the 800-meter run. Yale Honors Six Seniors and One Team with Annual Awards at Senior Student-Athlete Reception
Six seniors and one team were honored by the Yale Athletics Department with awards at the annual senior student-athlete reception Saturday afternoon at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The women's fencing team earned the Brodhead Award for highest team grade point average. Travis Henry (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) of the football team and Allison Mak (Richmond Hill, Ont.) of the gymnastics team were the recipients of the Ford Student-Athlete Community Outreach Award. Chris Labosky (Tallmadge, Ohio) of the mens cross country and track & field teams and Julia Weiser (Houston, Texas) of the field hockey team were the recipients of the Kiphuth Student-Athlete Distinction Award. Stephanie Colantonio (Watertown, Mass.) of the field hockey team and Ben Wescoe (La Jolla, Calif.) of the mens golf team were the recipients of the Meyer Humanitarian Award.

Bulldogs Prepare for NCAA Regional

The Bulldogs had an action-packed day on the second day of IC4A Championships at Princeton, with two relays and seven individuals competing. Several highlights included senior Eric DePalo scoring in the pole vault and senior Chris Labosky qualifying for the finals of the 800-meter run. Many other Bulldogs also put on strong showings in some of their final performances of the season.

Although last weeks Heptagonals Championships at Princeton marked the end of the season for most Bulldogs, many of them will have the opportunity to return to Princeton and compete at the IC4A Championships on May 14-16. The meet will feature athletes from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions who have met the qualifying standards for their events. Eleven individuals and both sprint relays will represent the Bulldogs. From the performances at Heptagonals last weekend, the team looks ready to put on even stronger performances at IC4As.

Evans Selected as Captain for 2010-11 Season
The Bulldogs gathered on Tuesday evening at their annual banquet to reflect on the season and award several individuals who made special contributions to the team: senior Reynolds Holmes, senior Chris Labosky and junior Marty Evans. By a team vote, Evans was also announced as the 2010-11 team captain at the conclusion of the banquet.

Bulldogs Place Fourth at Heptagonals
After two days of competition, the Bulldogs placed fourth with 64 points at the annual Heptagonal Championships, hosted by Princeton on Saturday and Sunday. Cornell took the team title with 188 points with Princeton in second with 152 points. The fourth-place finish, which is an improvement from both indoor season Heptagonals and last years outdoor Heptagonals, bodes well for a strong Bulldog team in the upcoming years.

Seniors Shine on First Day of Heptagonals
Battling through Saturdays strong winds, the Bulldogs put on a strong showing on the first day of the 75th annual Heptagonals Championships at Princeton. More than half of the athletes who competed made season bests or PRs and, while the sprinters have at least one person competing in the finals of each event. The seniors especially came through to put the Bulldogs in good position for tomorrows competition.

Bulldogs Head into Heptagonal Championships
For the past two weeks, the Bulldogs have been gearing up for the most anticipated meet of the outdoor season, the 75th annual Heptagonals Championships. This years event will be hosted by Princeton at Weaver Stadium on May 8-9. The timing of the meet poses somewhat of a challenge for the Bulldogs with academic finals also starting this week, but head coach David Shoehalter said they have continued to put in quality practices in the last few weeks.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs had one last chance to sharpen their skills before post-season at the Yale Springtime Invitational. This week, several Bulldogs will have the chance to compete in the Penn Relays, one of the most renowned track and field meets in the world, from April 22-25. Bulldogs Notch Eighth Consecutive Win Against Harvard
The Bulldogs pulled off another victory against Harvard at the annual Harvar-Yale dual meet on Saturday, making it their eighth consecutive win. With a total of 86 points, they beat the Crimson by nine points with several key performances, including senior Eric DePalos feat of winning three events. Many athletes also achieved PRs and season bests. With all of the individual performances, team captain junior Jeff Perrella said the team worked together to beat its longtime rival.

Yale Hosts Dual Meet with Harvard
The Bulldogs will face off against Harvard this Saturday at home in their annual dual meet, a tradition that has been going on since 1891. The Bulldogs are aiming for their eighth consecutive victory after dominating the Crimson at last years meet by 51 points. The meet will also give the chance for several athletes to compete in a low-key atmosphere before participating in the nationally acclaimed Penn Relays next week. Since it is a dual meet, head coach David Shoehalter said the team will focus on placement rather than times and marks.

Bulldogs Place Third at UMass Nine-Way Meet
Even though the Bulldogs aimed for a more conservative meet this Saturday, the team still placed third with 101 points out of 11 teams at the UMass Nine-Way Meet. In addition to not having any of their distance runners competing, the remaining athletes competed in fewer events in order to prepare for the second half of outdoor season. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs took home many top spots across the board.

The Bulldogs put on an impressive first day at the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday, hosted by Princeton. The team showed their strength in the throwing and distance events, even when competing against the Tigers, this years indoor Heptagonals champion. The Bulldogs strong performance at the Weaver Track and Field Stadium is also a good sign for the rest of the season, since outdoor Heptagonals will later be held there in postseason.

In their first outdoor meet of the year, the Bulldogs dominated the Tribe Invitational at William and Mary. A total of five teams from the area competed at the meet. The Bulldogs swept the relays and grabbed the top spots in multiple events throughout the day. Although the invitational was not scored, the Bulldogs clearly showed that they were the leading team at the meet.

The Bulldogs faced tough competition this Saturday against Princeton, last years runner-up at indoor Heptagonals, and Harvard at the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton meet. Although they placed third this year, the Bulldogs showed depth amidst challenging opponents. Yale Hosts Sixth Annual Giegengack Invitational
The Bulldogs will host one of their biggest home meets this weekend at Coxe Cage with over 15 schools competing, including Georgetown, UConn, Penn and Brown. The Giegengack Invitational is named after the legendary Yale coach Bob Giegengack. Head coach David Shoehalter said that the meet is also important because it gives the Bulldogs the chance to put on some solid performances before they head into Harvard-Princeton and Heptagonals.

The Bulldogs returned from their winter recess on Saturday and once again excelled at home. Like their last meet, the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic was not scored, but the Bulldogs proved their readiness for the indoor season. They hosted 15 teams from around the area, including Connecticut, Quinnipiac, New Haven and Sacred Heart.

Bulldogs Ready to Launch 2009-10 Season
Despite the graduation of several talented athletes from last year, the Bulldogs are ready to challenge themselves again this season. After a respectable fourth-place finish at indoor Heptagonals Championships last year, the Bulldogs will continue working on dominating multiple events within their conference. As always, they expect to qualify a number of individuals for NCAA post-season meets; last season, five members advanced to the NCAA East Regional. The first meet of the indoor season, the Lidlifter Invitational, will take place at Coxe Cage on Dec. 5.
