Bulldogs To Host Lidlifter Invitational
Season Opener Helps Gauge Athletes' Progress
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs will kick off the indoor season with the annual Lidlifter Invitational at Coxe Cage this Saturday. Although the meet is not scored, associate head coach David Shoehalter said it gives a chance to gauge the athletes' progress since practice began in September.
"It's an opportunity for us as coaches and athletes to see where their fall training has taken them," Shoehalter said.
The Bulldogs look to add on to their outstanding individual performances last year, especially among their talented seniors. Senior Reynolds Holmes will be defending his long jump title, having jumped an IC4A-qualifying mark of 7.05 meters at last year's meet. In the sprinting events, seniors David Soiles and Remi Ray should give solid runs in the 400-meter and 500-meter dashes. Soiles gave a crowd-pleasing finish in the 500-meter dash last year by coming from behind to win with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:04.04. Senior Ted Galligan will also compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
Fans should also watch for sophomore Matt Bieszard, who placed second in the 400-meter dash as a freshman. Junior David Smith, who competed at last year's indoor Heptagonals, will represent the Bulldogs in the throws. Several freshmen will also be making their debut performances - Josh Fuller in the sprints, Tommy Winger in the jumps and Mike Levine in the throws.
Field events start at 9:00 a.m. with the men's weight throw and running events start at 11:15 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run. A complete schedule can be found here. Results will be posted on Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
