Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic to Be Held on Saturday
Bulldogs Eager to Return to Competition
NEW HAVEN, Conn.
– The Bulldogs will host the 28th annual Yale
Intercollegiate Track Classic at Coxe Cage this Saturday. After
taking a five-week hiatus from competition, they look forward to
getting back on the track.
The Bulldogs’ previous meet, the Lidlifter Invitational, was also held at Coxe Cage on the Frank Shorter ’69 track. If their performances at the season opener are any indication of how they will place at the upcoming meet, the Bulldogs’ prospects seem bright. With IC4A-qualifying times in the 800-meter run and the 4x400 meter relay, senior Remi Ray should run more top times this Saturday. Junior Marty Evans placed third in the 400-meter dash and should improve from his eighth-place finish from last year’s Intercollegiate Track Classic. Sophomore Matt Bieszard also competed in the 400-meter dash last season and can build off his second-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the season opener. In the hurdles, senior Ted Galligan brings in a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles from the last meet.
The Bulldogs also have several contenders in the field events. Junior Samba Binagi and sophomore Yifan Chen notched the top two spots in the triple jump at the Lidlifter Invitational. In the throws, junior David Smith and freshman Mike Levine will lead the Bulldogs.
The majority of the distance squad will not race at the Intercollegiate Track Classic, having started training after cross-country season.
The first men’s event of the day will be the weight throw at 9:00 a.m. The first running event for the men will be the mile run at 12:20 p.m. The meet will conclude with the men’s 4x400 meter relay at 5:20 p.m. A complete schedule can be found here.
