Bulldogs Close Sam Howell Invitational

Labosky wins 1,500-meter Run

PRINCETON, N.J. – Yale finished the second day of the Sam Howell Invitational with strong performances all around. Senior Chris Labosky won the 1,500-meter run. Many freshmen posted collegiate bests during the course of the competition, and the Bulldogs competed well at one of the first meets of the season.

In the 100-meter dash, junior Marty Evans finished fifth in 11.08. Sophomore Matt Bieszard finished eighth in 11.22. Junior Chris Stanley was 12th in 11.34. In the 200-meter dash, Evans finished sixth in 21.82, and Bieszard was eighth again in 22.06. In the 400-meter dash, senior David Soiles finished ninth in 49.52.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Chris Ramsey and sophomore Conor Dooney finished seventh and eighth in 1:55.31 and 1:55.69. Another Yale pair, sophomore Andrew Esposito and freshman Tim Hillas, finished 14th and 15th (1:57.17 and 1:57.22).

Yale was hugely successful in the 1,500-meter run. Senior Chris Labosky won the event in 3:56.19, and senior Max Brown finished behind him in 4:01.31 for second place. Junior David Demres finished in 4:04.76 for 12th, and sophomore Nathan Richards and freshman Michael Pierce were 16th (4:05.42) and 17th (4:05.60) respectively.

Yale’s 4x100-meter relay team took second place in a close race behind Princeton. Bulldogs senior Reynolds Holmes, Evans, Bieszard and junior Chris Stanley finished in 41.88.

Yale finished third in the 4x400 meter relay. Evans, Bieszard, Stanley and Soiles finished in 3:17.04, behind Southern Connecticut State and Binghamton.

Freshman Michael Levine was second in the discus throw at 50.32m. Junior David Smith was seventh in 39.95m. Levine was also seventh in the hammer throw (51.52m). Jay Sullivan was 12th (45.85m) and Smith was 14th (42.40m). Smith was fifth in the shot put at 14.85m. Freshman Tom Winger competed in the long jump (6.19m). Junior Samba Binagi competed in the triple jump for Yale and finished fifth with 13.17m. Senior Eric Depalo was third in the pole vault (4.85m).

The Bulldogs will compete next at the UMass Invitational on April 10.
