Bulldogs Have Busiest Day on Day Two of IC4As
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bulldogs had an action-packed day on the second day of IC4A Championships at Princeton, with two relays and seven individuals competing. Several highlights included senior Eric DePalo scoring in the pole vault and senior Chris Labosky qualifying for the finals of the 800-meter run with a school-record time. Many other Bulldogs also put on strong showings in some of their final performances of the season.
DePalo scored for the Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (4.90m). Senior Reynolds Holmes also competed in the long jump, finishing 22nd with a mark of 6.83m. In his first appearance at outdoor IC4As, freshman Mike Levine came in 19th place with a throw of 43.91m in the discus throw.
Labosky had an impressive race in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run to qualify for finals. He ran a PR of 1:48.25, also his first time breaking 1:50 this season, to place third in his heat and fourth overall. The winners of each heat and the next three fastest runners will race in tomorrow's final.
The sprint relays fared well, both placing in the top 15 in their events. The 4x100-meter relay team of Holmes, juniors Marty Evans and Chris Stanley and sophomore Matt Bieszard clocked 41.32 in the preliminaries, placing fifth in their heat and 13th overall. Evans, Stanley, Bieszard came back later in the day to team up with senior David Soiles in the 4x400 meter relay, in which they took third in their heat and 14th overall. Even without senior Remi Ray, who was on the 4x400 meter relay squad that competed at Heptagonals, the team still cut a second off their previous best time to end the year with a new season best of 3:13.12.
In the same way that their races have played out all season, Evans and Bieszard ended up finishing right next to each other in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash, even though they ran in different heats. Bieszard had the faster time with 21.76, third in his heat and 21st place overall, while Evans ran 21.78, fourth in his heat and 22nd overall. Senior Ted Galligan also competed in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles and placed sixth in his heat (55.16).
Labosky and junior David Smith will represent the Bulldogs on the final day of IC4As tomorrow, Smith will compete in the shot put at 1:00 p.m., and Labosky will compete in the 800-meter run at 1:40 p.m. A complete schedule can be found here.
