Yale Hosts Collegiate Invitational

Meet Schedule

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a six-week winter recess, many Bulldogs are itching to get back on the track at Saturday's College Invitational, held at Coxe Cage. Teams who have previously participated in the meet include Albany, Fordham, Seton Hall, Southern Conn. State and men's powerhouse UConn. As the Bulldogs' first competition of the year, the unscored meet will give them a chance to gauge where they are in the season.

"We use this meet as a diagnostic," said David Shoehalter, the Mark T. Young '68 Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. "We see where everybody is in terms of their conditioning and what they need to work on in the next couple of weeks."

The Bulldogs bring many top athletes with strong performances from their last meet, the season opener at the Lidlifter Invitational. In the throws, senior David Smith, sophomore Mike Levine and freshman Stefan Palios all placed in the top three in their events at Lidlifter. Junior Yifan Chen is also coming off a second-place finish in the triple jump.

In the sprints, senior captain Marty Evans and junior Matt Bieszard have consistently ran top performances in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Senior Nathan Molina and sophomore Joshua Fuller should contribute in the short sprints, while freshman Daniel Jones also looks to build off of his impressive first race in the 60-meter dash at the season opener.

The meet will also be the first opportunity to race for many of the distance runners. The Bulldogs front a strong group in the 800-meter run with the team of juniors Andrew Esposito and Charlie Jaeger, sophomore Chris Ramsey and freshman John Cocco winning the 4x800-meter relay at Lidlifter. In the mile, the Bulldogs could see strong races from junior Conor Dooney, junior Julian Sheinbaum and freshman James Shirvell, who won the mile at the season opener. The 3000-meter run also had solid performances from senior Matt Bogdan and freshman Miles Richardson and could see huge contributions from juniors Nathan Richards and Jake McKenzie in their first meet. The addition of the distance runners also marks first time that all of the Bulldogs will compete at one meet.

"It's a chance for the whole team to really compete together, which is something we look forward to as coaches," Shoehalter said.

Field events will start at 9:00 a.m. with the men's weight throw, and running events start at 12:20 p.m. with the women's mile and end with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:20 p.m. Meet information can be found at directathletics.com. Buses will leave in front of Payne Whitney every 15 minutes. Results will be posted on Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
