Distance Medley Team Places Second

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs kicked off the seventh annual Giegengack Invitational on Friday with schools from around the region competing at Coxe Cage. The team notched several top spots in the field events, 200-meter dash and 5,000-meter run, ending with a second-place finish in the distance medley.

Sophomore Mike Levine placed fifth in the weight throw (16.05m) followed by senior David Smith in 11th place (14.73m). Freshman Dana Lindberg jumped 6.66m in the long jump to place sixth, while sophomore Tommy Winger jumped a season best of 6.44m to come in ninth.

Junior Matthew Bieszard came in a hard-fought second in the 200-meter dash with a season best of 22.18, meeting the IC4A-qualifying standard. Seniors Nathan Molina and Chris Stanley also placed eighth (22.73) and 14th in the event (22.88), respectively. 

Junior Samuel Lynch led the Bulldogs in the 5,000-meter run with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with an IC4A-qaulfiying time of 14:35.61, followed by senior Max Walden in sixth (14:59.73), senior David Demres in seventh (15:06.49) and sophomore Matthew Thwaites in ninth (15:13.36).             

The Bulldogs ran a close second in the distance medley to close off the night. The team of freshman James Shirvell, senior Marty Evans, sophomore Christopher Ramsey and junior Julian Sheinbaum ran 9:57.97, a little more than a second off of Central Conn.'s leading time and the Bulldogs' first sub-10 time this season. 

The Bulldogs will hit the track again on Saturday with field events at 9:30 a.m. and end with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 6:35 p.m. A complete schedule and list of entries can be found here. Buses to Coxe Cage will leave every 15 minutes in front of Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Results will be posted at Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
