Bulldogs Qualify Three on Day One of Heptagonals
Evans Runs No. 5 All-Time Indoor in 400-Meter Dash Preliminaries
NEW YORK – The Bulldogs finished out the first day of indoor Heptagonals Championships at the Armory Track with three qualifiers for Sunday's portion of the meet. The Heptagonals, arguably the most anticipated meet of the year, pits all eight Ivy League schools against each other at the end of the season.
Senior captain Marty Evans easily qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash, winning his heat with a PR and No. 5 all-time Yale indoor time of 49.28. Evans will enter finals with the third fastest time from Saturday. Junior Matthew Bieszard also qualified in the 500-meter dash with a PR of 1:03.69, the sixth fastest time in preliminaries. Freshman Daniel Jones competed in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and finished with a time of 7.09.
In the distance events, the Bulldogs qualified freshman James Shirvell in the 1,000-meter run, who finished fourth in 2:26.04. Junior Julian Sheinbaum made a season best of 4:12.92 in the mile, narrowly missing qualification in the mile by two spots. Senior Matt Bogdan also competed in the mile with a season best of 4:15.21. Junior Nathan Richards represented the Bulldogs in the last event of the day, the 3,000-meter run, and finished in 8:29.56.
Princeton, the favorite to win, is currently leading with 59 points.
The Bulldogs will hit the track again on Sunday, beginning with the 60-meter hurdles at 11:00 a.m. and ending with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 4:20 p.m. A complete schedule can be found here.
