Distance Runners Pull Through Back-to-Back Races
PHILADELPHIA – The Bulldogs competed in their final relay at the world-renowned Penn Relays on Saturday. After dominating the open class division of the distance medley relay on Friday with the fifth-fastest time for Yale outdoor, the distance runners came back to race the college division of the 4x800-meter relay in their first outdoor race of the season.
The team of junior Charlie Jaeger, freshman James Shirvell, junior Julian Sheinbaum and sophomore Christopher Ramsey finished in 7:54.20, their first race in the event since IC4A Championships in indoor season. Sheinbaum and Shirvell were also coming off racing the distance medley relay just the day before but still posted the fastest splits for the Bulldogs in the 4x800-meter relay.
While the contingency for the Bulldogs was smaller than other meets, David Shoehalter, the Mark T. Young '68 Director of Cross Country and Track and Field, highlighted several impressive performances that will lead them into Heptagonals Championships next weekend.
"The DMR ran very well. All four are looking ready for next weekend. Mike Levine performed well in the disc. We're hoping for consistent excellence from him," Shoehalter said.
The Bulldogs will host the Springtime Invitational on Sunday before competing with all seven other Ivy League schools at Heptagonals on May 7-8, also at home.
