Bulldogs Close Competition at IC4As

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bulldogs had two huge performances in the week of last chance meets before the NCAA Regional. Sophomore Mike Levine came through again for the Bulldogs on the second day of IC4A Championships with his third-place finish in the discus. While some Bulldogs were competing at the IC4A event, others were at Swarthmore's Last Chance Meet trying to post some fast times to qualify for the NCAA Regional. Senior John Van Deventer set No. 2 all-time Yale outdoor in the 1,500-meter run at the Swarthmore meet.

Levine threw 51.83m on his second-to-last throw in the discus to score for the Bulldogs. Earlier in the day, Levine also placed 17th in the hammer throw with a throw of 54.10m.

At the Swarthmore meet, Van Deventer ran a personal best by over six seconds to tie for third place with Villanova's Sam McEntee in a blazing time of 3:43.34. His breakthrough race couldn't have come at a better time, as this is the last week to post performances in order to qualify for the NCAA Regional. Van Deventer's time currently stands as No. 5 in the Ivy League and No. 12 in the region.

Two Bulldogs also ran in individual events at IC4As on Saturday. Senior captain Marty Evans competed in the 200-meter dash and took third in his heat and 17th overall (22.03). In the 800-meter run, freshman James Shirvell placed fourth in his heat and 22nd overall, matching his season best of 1:52.41 from outdoor Heptagonals.

In the 4x100-meter relay, senior Nathan Molina, Evans, senior Chris Stanley and Bieszard finished third in their heat and 16th overall in 42.01. Evans, Stanley, Molina and Bieszard came back in the afternoon to race the 4x400-meter relay, placing 15th to end with a season best of 3:16.01.

The 4x800-meter relay team of junior Charlie Jaeger, junior Julian Sheinbaum, junior Conor Dooney and Shirvell took second in a close race in the first heat, edging Harvard by a third of a second and finishing within a second of the heat winner, Hampton. Their time of 7:36.11 placed them at 14th overall.

Most of the Bulldogs have concluded their season, but a select few may qualify for the NCAA Regional on May 26-28 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. A list of participants will be posted at NCAA.com by May 19.
