Team, Individuals Earn Academic Honors from USTFCCCA
The Yale men’s track and field team has been named a USTFCCA All-Academic Team for 2012, and two Bulldog seniors -- Matthew Bieszard and John Van Deventer -- were honored with All-Academic selection individually.

Levine Earns Honorable Mention All-America Recognition
Junior Mike Levine (Commack, N.Y.) has earned honorable mention All-America recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Levine received the honor based on his performance in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the discus earlier this month.

Levine Concludes Outstanding Season at Nationals
Junior Mike Levine’s remarkable season came to an end Wednesday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Final Championships, hosted by Drake University. Levine finished 22nd in the discus throw, with only six spots and 3.07m separating him from All-American status.

Bulldogs Compete in Sprints, Middle Distance, Throws at Regionals
Three Bulldogs were in action today at the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of North Florida. Yale’s qualifiers – senior Matthew Bieszard, junior Mike Levine and senior John Van Deventer – competed against the 47 other best athletes in the East region in each of their respective events.

Three Elis Bound for NCAA East Regional
Three members of the Yale men’s track and field team – representing a diverse array of specialties – have obtained a coveted qualifying spot in the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Seniors Matthew Bieszard and John Van Deventer and junior Mike Levine earned their berths by each posting one of the 48 best marks in the East region in their respective events. The trio now will travel to the Jacksonville, Fla., campus of the University of North Florida to compete for a spot at Nationals.

The pair led the Elis to a 34th-place finish by combining for seven total points.

McGowan Takes 11th in 1500 at IC4As
Yale freshman John McGowan was the lone Eli to compete n the final day of the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships, and he made the most of his opportunity. McGowan qualified for the finals of the 1500-meter run by running the 11th-fastest time in prelims yesterday (3:49.77). Sunday’s race was significantly slower, but McGowan managed to hold the same position with a time of 3:57.33.

Six More Points for Elis at IC4As
With two days in the books and one still to come, the Bulldogs closed Saturday’s competition tied for 16th place in the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships. After senior Nathan Richards put a point on the board for the Bulldogs last night, junior Mike Levine added six more today thanks to his third-place showing in the discus, bringing the Yale’s two-day tally to seven. This year marks the 136th rendition of the meet, making it one of the oldest in the nation.

Bulldogs Back at Princeton for IC4As
The Yale men’s track and field team will send a select contingent of qualifying athletes to compete at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships at Princeton this weekend. The IC4A is a super-conference administered by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and consisting of teams from across New England and the Mid-Atlantic. Nine Elis have qualified for the meet individually, along with all three of Yale’s regular relay teams.

Hillas Tapped as 2012-2013 Track and Field Captain
Junior Timothy Hillas was selected by a vote of his teammates as the 2012-2013 Yale track and field captain at the team’s annual banquet on Tuesday. Hillas has emerged as one of the Ivy League’s elite middle distance runners over the course of the season, qualifying for the IC4A Championships in the 3000-meter run (8:12.55) indoors and in the 1500-meter run (3:48.12) outdoors.

Levine Repeats as Ivy League Champ
Led by its captain and the Ivy League's undisputed best discus thrower, the Yale men’s track and field team strung together a number of impressive results Sunday at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Penn. As a team, the Bulldogs placed seventh (36 points), losing out to Penn by 1.5 points. Princeton claimed the title for the second year in a row with 193 points.

Elis Close Day One in Sixth at Heps
The Yale men’s track and field began competition on Saturday at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships hosted by Penn. The day was mostly devoted to preliminaries in the running events, with only a handful of finals. The Bulldogs currently sit in sixth place with six points thanks to junior Mike Levine’s third-place result in the hammer throw. Princeton leads the pack with 52 points.

Bulldogs Set Sights on Heps
The Yale men’s track and field team begins postseason competition this weekend with the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Penn. This year will mark the 77th rendition of the signature meet, which pits the entire Ancient Eight against one another. Cornell had won the meet for eight years straight before falling to Princeton last year. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs finished fifth in 2011 and will be looking to improve upon that showing this year.

The Bulldogs hosted a number of regional teams today at the annual Yale Springtime Invitational at Dwyer Track. Due to the meet’s proximity to last week’s Penn Relays, Yale rested many of its premier contributors. Nonetheless, the Elis flexed their muscles in display of depth and balance in the unscored meet.

Richards 16th at Storied Penn Relays
Senior Nathan Richards, the lone Eli to compete on the first day of the Penn Relays, did not race to his full potential by a long shot, but still managed to finish 16th in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the historic meet. The stacked field drew athletes from across the nation, including winner Andrew Poore from Indiana, who currently holds the fastest time in the nation.

Bulldogs to Compete Against Nation’s Best at Penn Relays
Several members of the Yale men’s track and field team have earned the right to represent the university in competition at the fabled Penn Relays, which begin on Thursday. The meet is the oldest track and field competition in the United States, running continuously since 1895. Over the course of three days, cumulative attendance regularly exceeds 100,000 spectators and the meet features some of the best athletes in the world.

The Bulldogs put on a display of force in the distance and middle distance events Friday night on the first day of the Larry Ellis Invitational. Eight Elis competed in the elite races and all ran season bests, with six of them setting personal records. With the entire Ivy League present, Yale was able to take stock of where it stands against its rivals.

The Yale men’s track and field team will send a contingent to Princeton this weekend to compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Though David Shoehalter, the Mark T. Young ’68 Director of Cross Country and Track and Field, noted that qualification standards this year were particularly strict, 21 athletes have earned the right to represent the Bulldogs at the meet, which will feature the entire Ivy League along with a slew of other strong teams.

Bulldogs Premier New Athletes in Loss to Harvard
Despite a number of standout individual performances, the Bulldogs fell to the Crimson today by a score of 114 to 49. A number of athletes were competing in unfamiliar events or returning from injury or hiatus. Even so, Yale managed to pull out five victories and six second-place finishes.

Yale Aims to Return to Winning Ways Versus Rival Harvard
The Bulldogs are set to travel to Cambridge, Mass., this Saturday for their much-anticipated annual rivalry matchup against Harvard. This year will be the 122nd rendition of the meet in a tradition that dates back to 1891. Before falling to the Crimson last year, the Elis were riding eight consecutive victories from 2003 – 2010, and they hope to start a new winning streak this weekend.

The Yale men’s track and field team was back in action today at the second day of the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University. The unscored meet featured most Ivy League teams, along with a number of other regional schools and athletic clubs. In all, 963 athletes competed at the invitational, making it one of the larger meets the Bulldogs will see all year.

The Yale men’s track team opened its outdoor season in impressive fashion at the UConn Spring Invite yesterday. Competing against 11 other regional schools at the unscored meet, the team amassed victories in 3 events and even saw several athletes qualify for the IC4A meet, a particularly exciting feat given the earliness in the season.

Bulldogs Back East, Back in Action
After a successful West Coast training trip, the Bulldogs will return to the track this Saturday rested and ready when they compete at the UConn Spring Invite in nearby Storrs. For most members of the team, the meet will be their first competition since the conclusion of their indoor season a month ago, and will offer an opportunity to take stock of their fitness after a California spring training trip. Yale will take on Ivy League rival Brown at the unscored meet along with a host of other regional teams, including Bryant, Hartford, Rhode Island, Southern Connecticut State University, Stonehill College and, of course, UConn.

4x400-Meter Relay Team Qualifies for Finals at IC4As
Competing at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships at Boston University, the Elis saw their 4x400-meter relay team put together its best effort of the season (3:14.06), and advance to tomorrow’s final in a thrilling race. The team of senior captain Matthew Bieszard, freshman William Rowe, freshman Mario Kranjac and freshman Dylan Hurley bettered its seed time by over 5 seconds in posting the fourth fastest time in Yale history. That milestone is particularly significant in consideration of the fact that three of the foursome are freshmen. Hurley valiantly held off Temple’s Alex McGee on the anchor leg of the race to nab the final qualifying spot.

Bieszard Awarded Ivy League Recognition
Thanks to his second-place effort in the 400-meter dash (48.95) at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships this weekend, senior track and field captain Matthew Bieszard was granted a spot on the All-Ivy League second team. Though Bieszard was an All-Ivy athlete in the 2010 outdoor season as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team, this marks the first time he has attained the honor individually.

The Elis capped off their indoor season with a number of strong results at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Cornell, highlighted by the performance of their captain, senior Matthew Bieszard. As a team, the Bulldogs finished eighth with 16 total points, narrowly losing out to Penn (18 points). Princeton (184 points) held off Cornell (176 points) to claim the Ancient Eight crown for the third consecutive year.

With four events scored, the Elis closed the first chapter of the two-day meet in fifth place with 5 team points. Princeton, last year’s champion, ended the day in first place (49 points), followed by Cornell (37 points), Harvard (20 points) and Dartmouth (10 points). Yale currently stands ahead of Brown (2 points), Columbia (1 point) and Penn (0 points).

After a weekend off, the Yale men’s track and field team is tapered and in top form heading into this weekend’s Ivy League Heptagonal Championships hosted by Cornell. The meet marks the beginning of the postseason for the Bulldogs, with the IC4A championships to follow. After a fourth-place finish in 2009, the Elis have fallen to eighth-place at the meet in each of the past two years. And yet, despite having one of the smallest rosters in the league, Yale boasts several of the top athletes in this year’s contest, and will look to improve upon those results.

Bieszard Leads Yale at HYP
The Yale men's track and field team placed third when they faced their two oldest rivals, Harvard and Princeton, on Saturday. The Bulldogs finished with 13.50 points, while the Tigers ran away with the meet with 100.50 points and the Crimson were second with 56.50 points. Even though the final points tally didn't fall in the Bulldogs' favor, they were buoyed by a number of strong performances.

Competitive Fires Ablaze for HYP Showdown
As the postseason looms, this Saturday presents the Yale men’s track and field team with its annual grudge match against Ivy League rivals Harvard and Princeton. The latter has dominated the meet since joining the tradition seven years ago, and is considered the odds-on favorite to repeat its victory in the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships this year. Meanwhile, Yale and Harvard have historically been evenly matched. The Crimson, who will play host this year, topped the Bulldogs in each of the past two years, reversing a nearly decade-long streak of Yale triumphs prior.

Track & Field Teams Host Youth Clinic
The Yale track & field teams held the first of what will hopefully become regular free track & field clinics this past Wednesday at Coxe Cage. The inaugural clinic drew 36 local children, ranging from 6th to 8th grade, who joined the members of the men’s and women’s teams for the event.

Bulldogs to Compete in Final Home Meet of Indoor Season
After several weeks on the road, the Bulldogs will be home this weekend at Coxe Cage to host the Giegengack Invitational. The meet, named after legendary Yale coach Bob Giegengack, will feature a smattering of local teams, along with Ivy League foe Penn and a number of other regional schools. The Elis rested a number of their top athletes last week so that they would be well rested for this weekend, and the team is poised for a big day.

The Yale men’s track and field made the short trip to Boston today to compete at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. The Bulldogs traveled lightly, and in many respects treated the meet as a tune-up for next week’s Giegengack Invitational at home. Nonetheless, the team turned in a number of stellar results, particularly in the distance events.

The Elis finished third at Saturday’s rendition of the annual tri-meet against Dartmouth and Columbia. The Big Green (62 points) edged out the Lions (60 points) for the team title, while Yale finished with 46 points. Though the team tally was less than the Bulldogs might have hoped for, their individual stars shined brightly.

After a six-week hiatus, the Yale men’s track and field team returns to the oval this Saturday when it hosts the 30th Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic at Coxe Cage. The Bulldogs are looking to regain some of the momentum they built with their opening meet on Dec. 3, also held at Coxe Cage. Like that first meet, Saturday’s competition will merely be a friendly, and will not be scored.

The Yale men’s track and field team got its first taste of competition of the 2011-2012 season at Saturday’s Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage. The unscored meet featured eight teams, and allowed the Yale athletes a chance to test their legs before the season begins in earnest after winter break. Collectively, the Bulldogs turned in a solid performance, but it was the Yale middle distance men who shone brightest.

Curtain Rises on a Promising 2011-2012 Season
The Yale men’s track and field team will open its indoor season this Saturday by hosting the Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage. In the past, the event has drawn teams from across the tri-state area, including Yale’s cross-town rivals Quinnipiac and the University of New Haven, who will offer this year’s Elis their first taste of live competition. Head coach Marc Davis said he is looking to improve on last year’s performances, and is confident that his young team is up to the challenge.

100 Marathons’ Worth of Miles Awaits Sam Fox ’09 in Charitable Effort for Parkinson’s
Sam Fox ’09, a former All-East and All-Ivy high jumper for the Yale track and field team, will attempt to break the speed record for running/hiking the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail this fall as part of an effort to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease. Fox will attempt to travel the equivalent of 100 marathons’ worth of miles in 60 days. He is undertaking the effort through the charitable organization he founded, Run While You Can, in honor of his mother, Lucy, who suffers from Parkinson’s.
