Bulldogs Back East, Back in Action
Elis Face Early Test at UConn Spring Invite
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a successful West Coast training trip, the Bulldogs will return to the track this Saturday rested and ready when they compete at the UConn Spring Invite in nearby Storrs. For most members of the team, the meet will be their first competition since the conclusion of their indoor season a month ago, and will offer an opportunity to take stock of their fitness after a California spring training trip. Yale will take on Ivy League rival Brown at the unscored meet along with a host of other regional teams, including Bryant, Hartford, Rhode Island, Southern Connecticut State University, Stonehill College and, of course, UConn.
While on spring break, the Elis were scheduled to compete at the Northridge Invitational, but ended up fielding only one relay team due to poor weather and track conditions. As a result, this Saturday will be the effective outdoor season opener for the team. For many athletes, that means a first crack at a number of events not offered indoors, including the 3000-meter steeplechase, the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, the 4x100-meter relay and the discus, javelin and hammer throws.
Field events at the UConn Spring Invite will begin at 12:30 p.m. and track events commence at 2:00 p.m. A full schedule is available here. Results will be available after the meet's conclusion on www.directathletics.com and www.yalebulldogs.com.
