Senior Steeplechaser Wins All-East Accolades

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale men's track and field arrived in Princeton on Friday for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships. Only one Eli was in action on the opening day of competition, but that was enough to get them on the scoreboard.

Senior Nathan Richards ran a season best to take eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:04.58). In doing so, he scored a point for the Bulldogs and earned himself All-East honors. Richards beat out Harvard's Jakob Lindaas, Cornell's Andy Arnold and Princeton's Tyler King, all of whom had bested him at Heps a week ago.

Richards will get a chance to add to his already decorated collegiate resume when he compets at the NCAA East Regional meet in two weeks. The Lynchburg, Va. native's personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:54.15) ranks fourth on the all-time Yale charts, and qualified him for NCAA Regionals last year as well. Richards was also the captain of the cross country team in 2011.

Competition resumes tomorrow for the Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. A full schedule is available here and results will be available afterward at www.lancertiming.com and www.yalebulldogs.com.
