Team Captain Represents Bulldogs in Boston
BOSTON, Mass.—The Yale men's track and field team captain, senior James Shirvell, represented the Bulldogs at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston on Saturday. The meet, hosted by Boston University, attracted a wide range of schools from the northeast region, including many of Yale's Ivy League rivals. Shirvell was the only Eli to travel to Boston for the meet, as the rest of his team competed at the Giegengack Invitational, held at Yale's own Coxe Cage.
Shirvell finished the mile run with a time of 4:05.04, the second-fastest mile time of his collegiate career. The star senior was coming off perhaps his best race ever, running a 4:00.54 and easily breaking the all-time Yale mile run record at the Terrier Invitational two weekends ago. Shirvell will be seeking to top that time during the next few weeks. If he manages to do so, he might have a chance to qualify for the Division I NCAA Indoor Championships, held in New Mexico in March.
Shirvell will rejoin his teammates next weekend, when the Bulldogs host rivals Harvard and Princeton at Coxe Cage.
