BOSTON, Ma. - Two Bulldogs placed in the top ten at the IC4A men's track and field championships during the final day of competition today. Sophomore Austin Laut claimed second place in the pole vault, and senior Andre Ivankovic took seventh in the one-mile run. Junior Jake Hoops also competed in the shot put for the Bulldogs at the meet.
Laut's second-place finish at this year's IC4As means that he has finished in the top ten at every IC4A championship of his career. His vault of 5.15 meters was the second-highest of his college career, and was .2 meters higher than his fourth-place vault at this year's Ivy League Championships. Laut's consistently high vaults will make him formidable competition heading into the outdoor portion of the season.
This was the first time Ivankovic has competed in the one-mile run this season since the Giegengack Invitational in early February, where he ran the fastest time of his Yale career. Ivankovic has had a remarkable four seasons in indoor competition, qualifying for the IC4A Championships all four years and placing in the top ten twice. His seventh-place finish, with a time of is 4:08.21, follows a fifth-place finish last year.
In the first IC4A championship competition of his career, Hoops placed 22nd in the shot put with a throw of 14.77 meters.
The IC4A championship meet was the Bulldogs' last competition of the indoor season. They will next take to the track on March 25, when they begin outdoor competition at the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational in San Diego.
