CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Sophomore Austin Laut took fourth in the pole vault at the Virginia Challenge today, making him the Bulldogs' top finisher through the first day of competition. In one of the fastest and most competitive meets of the season, the Bulldogs got off to a strong start, breaking several personal records.
The Bulldogs also fielded three athletes in the 800-meter run. Freshman James Lewis had the fastest time of the day for the Bulldogs, coming in 35th place with a time of 1:53.14. This time is almost seven seconds faster than his previous fastest time in the event, which was just two weekends ago at the Oxford-Cambridge Harvard-Yale meet. Senior Tim Cox and freshman Austin Stoner also ran the 800-meters today, finishing in 44th and 47th places respectively. Cox and Stoner each set personal best times in the event as well.
Junior Jake Hoops represented the Bulldogs in the first day of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton today, finishing eighth in the shot put with a throw of 16.21 meters.
The Virginia Challenge will continue tomorrow with several Bulldogs competing in distance events, hurdles, and jumping events.
