NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team hosted the 36th Annual Yale Collegiate Invitational this weekend at Coxe Cage, featuring many different teams from the region. The Bulldogs fielded only one competitor, as the rest of the team rested in preparation for their first taste of Ivy League competition this upcoming weekend at the Yale, Dartmouth and Columbia tri-meet.
The Elis' sole competitor Andrew Rochon soared above the rest of the competition, taking home first place in the weight throw, as well as finishing in second place in the shot put. His mark of 14.97m in the weight throw is a big improvement on his mark of 14.50m at his debut in the season opener. Rochon's second-place throw of 14.24m in the shot put was also a huge improvement on his previous mark of 12.95m.
Junior Austin Laut and first-year Kyle Brown traveled to Reno, Nev. to compete against some of the nation's best at the 2018 National Pole Vault Summit. Laut performed very well, placing fourth with a jump of 5.05m. Kyle Brown vaulted 4.35m, good enough for fifth in his flight. This meet was a great opportunity for these athletes to experience early-season national competition.
The Bulldogs' next competition will be this upcoming weekend on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Dartmouth, where they will see their first Ivy League competition against Columbia and Dartmouth. The following weekend, on Jan. 27, they will travel to Cambridge, Mass. for the Harvard, Yale and Princeton tri-meet.
Full results for this weekend's meet are available here.
