NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's track and field team will travel to Staten Island, N.Y., for the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Center on Saturday. After coming off a tough weekend of competition, many of the Bulldogs will be taking off this meet in order to rest and recover. Nonetheless, expect to see all healthy field athletes and sprinters competing, as they continue to prepare for the approaching Ivy League Championships later this month.
In the 60m dash, Kyle Macauley and Vincent Vaughns have had fantastic starts to their seasons, already earning Yale all-time top 15 marks. Alex Young, also a 60m runner, has had a strong start to his season and will look to continue to build on that this weekend. Gregory Campbell, Jr. and Connor Hill raced in the 200m dash last weekend, setting impressive marks. They should be back in action this weekend, along with Jonathan Ascher, Fergal Burnett Small and Jackson Chapman. Ben Shelley will also take to the track, as he continues to improve in the 60mH.
In the field events, Kyle Brown and Austin Laut will continue to reach for higher marks in the pole vault, as Cody Clements and Mike Koller do the same in the high jump. In the long jump, Carl Mansson will be looking to improve upon his recent marks. Jake Hoops will once again compete in the shot put, after a strong performance last weekend. Hoops will be joined in the shot put by Andrew Rochon, who will also compete in the weight throw.
The Villanova Invitational will mark the first meet in February for the Bulldogs, meaning that there are now only three weeks until the Ivy League Championships take place. This weekend's meet, along with the rest of their upcoming schedule, will be important for the Bulldogs, as they try to get in some final preparation before the conference championships later this month. Live results for the Villanova Invitational will be available on oceanbreezenyc.org.
