Bulldogs Find Success at Auburn, Northeastern and Virginia

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's track and field team competed across the country at three separate meets this weekend: The Virginia Challenge hosted by Virginia, the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn and the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational hosted by Northeastern. The Bulldogs all competed well at their respective meets and are looking primed for success with Ivy Heps only two weeks away.

 

Virginia Challenge

RESULTS

Alex Young opened competition on Friday for the Bulldogs, running 11.20 in the 100m dash, placing fourth in his section. James Lewis followed with his performance in the 800m invitational run, where he ran 1:53.94.

On Saturday, Cameron Wyman, Michael Yuan and Austin Stoner all set new personal records in the open 800m run. Wyman finished second with a time of 1:53.23, Yuan placed sixth with a time of 1:55.01 and Stoner finished tenth with a 1:55.68.

The Bulldogs were also successful in the 1500m run, taking home high finishes and new personal records. Trevor Reinhart finished in third place with a new personal record of 3:43.17. Allen Siegler also set a new personal record with his time of 3:50.48. Thomas Gmür finished right behind Siegler, with a time of 3:51.00, Will Laird set a new personal record of 3:54.68 and Matt Chisholm finished with a time of 3:58.24.

Neil Braganza set a new personal record in the 3,000m steeplechase, placing seventh with a time of 9:43.25. In the 5,000m run, Jonathan Lomogda, Charlie Gardner, Patrick Perry and Armstrong Noonan ran times of 14:49.10, 14:55.14, 15:10.90 and 15:29.14, respectively. Perry's 15:10.90 is a new college best for him.

 

War Eagle Invitational

RESULTS

The 4x400m relay team of Ekrem Ayhan, Gregory Campbell, Jr., Kyle Macauley and Vincent Vaughns led the Bulldogs' effort in Auburn with its victory against a quick field. Their win was justified, as team's final time of 3:13.25 is the fastest of the year for the Bulldogs. The 4x100m relay team of Paedyn Gomes, Macauley, Alex McIntyre and Vaughns ran a time of 41.18, placing tenth overall.

In the individual events, the Bulldogs competed well in all of their sections. Macauley finished fifth in his section of the 100m dash with a time of 10.89. In the 200m dash, Vaughns set a new personal record of 21.04 and placed second in his section, Gomes was fourth in his section with a time of 21.97, Macauley crossed the line runner-up in his section with a 22.08 and Connor Hill closed out the event for the Bulldogs with a time of 22.63. Vaughns' time of 21.04 earned him sixth place overall in the event. In the 400m dash, Ayhan set a new personal record, winning his section in 48.25, while Campbell, Jr., was second in his section with a new college best time of 48.26. Gomes competed in the finals of the 110mH, placing fourth with a time of 14.14.

In the pole vault, Austin Laut set a new season best mark of 5.17m, right off of his personal record of 5.18m. Laut finished the event second overall. In the high jump, CJ McCord jumped 1.98m, earning him tenth.

 

Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational

RESULTS

At Northeastern, the Bulldogs were led by a victory in the triple jump from Jimmy Shih, with a mark of 13.69m. Shih also competed in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 6.50m. Spencer O'Neill finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.86m. 

Andrew Rochon led the throwers this weekend, setting a new personal record in the hammer throw of 44.20m, earning him fourth place. Rochon was joined by Jake Hoops in the shot put, where Hoops placed fifth with a throw of 14.90m and Rochon placed eighth with a mark of 13.67m. Hoops also competed in the discus throw, finishing sixth with a throw of 40.53.

On the track, Jackson Chapman led the way with his second place performance in the 400mH, setting a new personal record of 56.33. Jonathan Ascher also competed in the 400mH, placing fourth with a time of 58.21. Ben Shelley placed third in the 110mH, running a time of 16.53. Alex Whittaker and Kohl Swift competed in the 800m run, finishing fourth and sixth, with times of 1:57.91 and 1:59.59, respectively.

The Bulldogs were spread out this weekend, but they will all return to New Haven for competition next week at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
