NEW HAVEN, Conn.— The Yale men's track and field team will host the Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage on Saturday to begin the 2018-19 season. The meet will serve as an early season gauge for the Bulldogs competing, as well as an introduction to collegiate competition for many first-years. The meet will kick off with the field events, set to start at 9:00 a.m.; the running events will begin at 11:40 a.m.

Jack Dunn and Andrew Rochon will start the day for the Bulldogs in the weight throw, to be followed by the shot put upon completion – Rochon will be competing in both events. Darius Jing is slated to compete in the long jump in his first meet as a Bulldog, to follow completion of the women's section (set to start at 10:00 a.m.). Following Jing in the long jump, Jimmy Shih will represent the Bulldogs in the triple jump, his signature event in which he placed seventh at outdoor Ivy Heps in 2018, and is the defending Harvard-Yale champion.

At 9:30 a.m., CJ McCord and Spencer O'Neill will be competing in the high jump. At indoor Ivy Heps in 2018, McCord finished runner-up and O'Neill placed seventh. Both athletes will be looking to have their names at the top of the results sheets this indoor season. Following the women's pole vault at 12:00 p.m., Austin Laut will vault in the men's section. Laut finished third at last year's indoor Ivy Heps and went on to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in outdoors, showcasing his prowess as one of the premier vaulters in the Ivy League.

Only sprinters will take to the track this weekend, as the distance and middle distance squads just finished cross country season and will be gearing up for later races. The Bulldogs will begin racing at 2:15 p.m., with the 60m dash trials, set to feature Gregory Campbell, Jr., Kyle Macauley, Vincent Vaughns, Alex Young and Phil Zuccaro. Vaughns and Macauley placed fourth and fifth, respectively, last season at indoor Ivy Heps, and will be the third and fourth returning athletes in the league this season. The 4x400m relay is the only other event on the track the Bulldogs are set to compete in, with three squads entered. The squads will be composed of the following athletes: Campbell, Laut, Macauley, McCord, Vaughns, Young, Zuccaro, Fergal Burnett Small, Jackson Chapman, Chris Colbert, Connor Hill and Alex McIntyre. The Bulldogs' 4x400m relay team placed seventh last season at indoor Ivy Heps, and the event has historically been one of the team's strongest.

Results will be located at paynescornertiming.com and on yalebulldogs.com as they are made available, and a recap will be posted following the conclusion of the meet.
