BOSTON – The Yale men's track and field team completed its first day of competition Saturday at the ICAAAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Boston University. Seven Bulldogs competed across three events, and three qualified for their respective finals to be held Sunday.
CJ McCord was the only Bulldog not participating in an event with a preliminary round, and he took advantage of the opportunity to score. He soared above 2.04m in the high jump, and secured the runner-up finish over a deep field. McCord has now concluded his final indoor season, highlighted by a school record-breaking performance from December, when he cleared 2.10m (6' 10.75").
Nick Dahl charged to the lead in his heat of the mile preliminaries, winning with a new personal record of 4:06.18 and qualifying for Sunday's final – he covered the final 800m of his race in just over two minutes and one second. Since the start of the season, Dahl has now shaved more than five seconds off his personal best. Joining Dahl in the finals will be Allen Siegler, after setting a new personal record of 4:07.08 in his preliminary heat. The Bulldogs' milers are looking sharp leading into Sunday, so they will be worth keeping and eye out for. Will Laird and Harrison Smith capped their indoor seasons, finishing 29th and 30th, respectively, in the mile run.
Ekrem Ayhan set a new personal record of 21.69 in the 200m dash, earning the 10th seed from the preliminaries going into the final heats. Ayhan has been improving all season and should be geared-up for a fast finish Sunday. Phil Zuccaro finished 31st in the 200m dash with a time of 22.22, just a hair off his personal record.
Sunday's events will begin at 9:30 a.m., with Jimmy Shih representing the Bulldogs in the triple jump.
