Bulldogs to Auburn, Virginia and Home this Weekend

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team will be splitting into three different groups and traveling to compete at separate meets across the country Friday and Saturday. The majority of the sprinters will be competing at the War Eagle Invitational, hosted by Auburn, where they hope to find stiff competition in the shorter events. A handful of distance runners will be at the Virginia Challenge, hosted by Virginia, whereas the remainder of the distance squad will remain home for the Mark Young Invitational. The individual Bulldogs set to run at each meet are listed below, along with relevant links to that meet.

Schedule of Events 

In Alabama, CJ McCord will be getting things started Saturday at 11:30 a.m., with the high jump. McCord is currently ranked sixth in the Ivy League in that event with his season best mark of 1.97m (6' 5.5"). Following him will be the 4x100m relay, set to start at 12:10 p.m., featuring the Bulldogs' team of Ekrem Ayhan, Juma Sei, Vincent Vaughns and Alex Young. The Bulldogs' time of 40.90 stands as the second-best in the league this season. The 400m dash will be next on the track at 1:30 p.m., with Ayhan, Sei and Connor Hill. The Bulldogs have been successful this season at the 400m dash, with Sei having the second-ranked time in the league at 47.67, and Ayhan holding the third-best time in the league of 48.11.

At 2:00 p.m., Young and Kyle Macauley will compete in the 100m dash, in which they are respectively ranked 16th and 14th in the league. Both of these athletes will be aiming for quicker season bests in this event. Also at 2:00 p.m., will be Austin Laut in the pole vault. Laut is coming off the jump of his career from the Harvard-Yale match, where he broke the school record with a mark of 5.31m (17' 5"), which now ranks him second in the league.

At 3:40 p.m., Macauley, Sei, Vaughns and Young will all be toeing the line for the 200m dash, one of the Bulldogs' deepest events, as evidenced by Vaughns' league ranking of third and Ayhan's ranking of sixth. The Bulldogs have five athletes ranked in the top 17 in the league in the 200m dash, the most of any school. Closing out the day in Alabama will be the 4x400m relay at 4:35 p.m., featuring Ayhan, Hill, Sei and Macauley.

 

Virginia Challenge

The Virginia Challenge will take place over two days, with one athlete set to compete Friday, and three athletes to compete Saturday. Cameron Wyman will be the sole Bulldog competing Friday, as he will take on the 800m run, at 7:57 p.m. Wyman is currently ranked 10th in the Ivy League in the 800m run, with his season best of 1:52.50.

Saturday, at 6:45 p.m., Nick Dahl, Will Laird and Allen Siegler will race the 1500m run. This remains one of the Bulldogs' premier events, as Dahl currently holds the fastest time in the Ivy League of 3:45.51, while Siegler has the sixth-fastest time. Both athletes will be looking to further their 2019 progress this weekend and lay down some fast times.

 

Mark Young Invitational

Meet Information + Schedule 

The rest of the team will remain in New Haven on Saturday for the Mark Young Invitational, held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex. The throwers will get things started at 1:00 p.m., with Jack Dunn and Andrew Rochon in the hammer throw and shot put. In the league, Rochon is ranked 17th in the shot put and 13th in the hammer throw, while Dunn is ranked 12th in the hammer throw. Also at 1:00 p.m., will be the long jump, featuring Darius Jing, currently 21st in the league. Following Jing will be Jimmy Shih in the triple jump, in which he has the 11th best mark of the league.

On the track, James Lewis, Austin Stoner, Kohl Swift and Alex Whittaker will get things going with the 800m run. Swift is coming off a fourth-place finish from Harvard-Yale, while Stoner placed fifth in that race. Zach Capello will finish off the weekend at 6:50 p.m. with the 1500m run.
