Elis Defeat Dartmouth, Columbia

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Halfway through the meet this Sunday afternoon at Coxe Cage, Yale had a narrow lead of two points over Dartmouth, but eventually pulled away to win the meet over Dartmouth (58 points) and Columbia (42.5 points) with 79.50 points. The Bulldogs won 10 of 17 events.

John Langhauser recorded a new personal best as he won the shot put with a toss of 17.43 meters, over two meters farther than any competitor. He is close to breaking a half-century old record set by Jim Fuchs in 1950 of 17.57 meters. Langhauser was also second in the weight throw (15.91 meters).

In other field events, Reynolds Holmes won the long jump with a distance of 6.92 meters. Eric DePalo and Matt Lachman took first and second in the pole vault with distances of 4.50 and 4.35 meters. Samuel Fox won the high jump, clearing a height of 2.00 meters.

Victor Cheng won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.98. Russ Kempf tied for third with a time of 7.06, later going on to win the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.38. Brandon Giles was second in this event with a time of 22.87.

Dan O'Brien won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31. Ted Galligan was second with a time of 8.54 and was also second in the 400-meter dash (51.28). Remi Ray was second in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:03.50, qualifying for IC4As in his first performance as a Bulldog.

Other winners included Matthew Shaffer in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.63 and Maxwell Brown in the 3,000-meter run (8:37.54). Christopher Smitson was third in the 800-meter run (1:56.16). Rounding out the distance events was a second place finish by John Hinkle in the one mile run (4:17.61).

The 4x400-meter relay team also won with a time of 3:20.79.
