LONG BEACH, Calif. - In the first outdoor meet of the season, the Elis finished fourth with 76 points Saturday at the 2006 Long Beach Collegiate Classic. The distance squad did not compete since they ran at the Oxy Distance Carnival the previous day. Long Beach State was first with 132 points.
Dan O'Brien nearly hit the qualifier for regionals (14.30) with his winning time in the hurdles of 14.35. The 4x100-meter relay team of Victor Cheng, Kevin Alexander, O'Brien, and Russell Kempf also won with a time of 41.82. The 4x400-meter relay team (Rob deLaski, Shomari Taylor, Jihad Beauchman and Kevin Alexander) also picked up a win with a time of 3:13.85.
Yale also picked up a number of third place finishes in other running events. Cheng was third in the 100-meter dash (10.91), Kempf was third in the 200-meter dash (22.14) and Taylor was third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.47).
John Langhauser was second in the hammer throw (49.70 meters) and third in the shot put (15.98 meters).
