Bulldogs Finish Strong at Penn Relays, Head Home for Yale Invitational

April 26, 2008

PHILADELPHIA - On the third and final day of competition at the Penn Relays the Bulldogs contested in only one event, but they made it count. The team of senior Matt Bordoni, junior Jared Bell, junior Jake Gallagher and sophomore Chris Labosky cruised to victory in the second section of the 4x800-meter relay, winning with a time of 7:31.74. Their time was 12 seconds faster than the IC4A-qualifying mark, and would have been fast enough to earn them a top ten finish in the Championship of America section-a race bringing together many of the top teams in the East.

The relay's first-place finish was one of two wins for Yale at the Penn Relays this year: sophomore Eric DePalo also won his section of the pole vault on Friday. Only four competitors in the Championship section topped DePalo's height, giving him a fifth-place finish overall. The highest finish for the men came from junior Jeffrey Lachman, who earned a fourth-place finish in the discus throw with his regional-qualifying mark.

Sunday, the Bulldogs will return to New Haven, where some will compete at the Yale Springtime Invitational alongside many teammates who did not travel to the Penn Relays.

The Springtime Invitational is the final meet before the Heptagonal Championships, which will bring together all eight Ivies to compete for the conference title on Yale's own Dwyer Track May 10-11. The meet will provide a last chance for the Bulldogs to tune up before Heps in front of a home crowd.

Field events will begin at 10:00a.m. with the men's discus and long jump, and running events will begin at noon with the women's 4x100-meter relay. A meet schedule can be found here; however, there is no set time for each event: the events will run on an "open schedule" where each event will be started as soon as possible after the previous event has finished. Buses will be available to transport spectators between Payne Whitney Gym and the track complex every 15 minutes, starting at 8:30 a.m.
