Langhauser Wins Shot Put on Day One of Heps

PHILADELPHIA - John Langhauser won the shot put (54'1.25") and was sixth in the hammer throw (170'8") to highlight Yale's first day of competition at the Heptagonal Championship at Penn's Franklin Field Saturday. The Bulldogs were in sixth place with 11 points after six events.

Victor Cheng was the lone Bulldog out of three to qualify for Sunday's finals in the 100-meter dash, winning the second heat with a time of 10.82. Kevin Alexander advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash as well by winning the third heat with a time of 47.33. Yale did not have anyone qualify in the 200-meter dash, the 800-meter run or the 1,500-meter run.

Daniel O'Brien advanced to the finals in the 110-meter hurdles, and both Michael Brown and Shomari Taylor advanced in the 400-meter hurdles. Taylor's time of 52.41 was second-best in the trials.

Kevin Hickenbottom was eighth in the javelin throw (178'03").

Princeton (60 points) was in the lead after six events. Competition concludes Sunday.
